Courage ‘fer’ Love

February, a month full of excitement, surprises, but also changes. All the entries on this blog seem to remind me of every single moment that has once come into my life. Most of them are good memories but only I know what has been in my mind between those day-by-day gaps. Soon, the calendar turned to another new page, and so was my life.

After the entire February past, Jennifer’s photobook finally came to my door. “The L Word Book” may be its official name but I tend to believe it is just a phrase to describe the condition of this book – an ‘L’ ‘word’ on the cover of a ‘book.’ A black hardcover with leather-like texture makes holding this photobook like holding a treasure. Indeed, it is a treasure. As the pages turned, stories are told, not of others but of the cast.

Through Jennifer’s photos, through the call sheets, through those interviews, through each smiling face. Even six years after, even 4,629 miles from the set, I can still feel the happiness filled in the air back at those moments.

Picking up the memory is a tiring job. Putting all the pieces together even needs tremendously horrible work. It requires a mind of logic and more importantly a heart of passion. I believe. I believe one must be able to tell when the gift is given from a true heart. I simply feel all the efforts Jennifer has put in this book and thank her for being compelled to do this. There is absolutely no doubt that Jennifer loves this show and she has chosen a wonderful way to leave an incredible gift for all of us – the cast, the crew, and the fans.

It was really fun reading Lu’s note to Jennifer first and then starting reading Jennifer’s words at the very beginning of the book. In the cute hand-written note, Lu said Jennifer would be the first one coming into her mind while thinking of ‘courage.’ In the preface, Jennifer recalled the beginning of this journey. Nine people arrived in Vancouver that day and six of them remained in the show for the following six years. On the set, they were connected by something they could not see – intuition, hope, love, pain, fear, and courage. Use your fingers now.

Intuition. Hope. Love. Pain. Fear. Courage.

Six characters? How coincident this is! So, if Jennifer took that ‘Courage,’ could I say Laurel took that part of ‘Love?’

Courage to love? Courage for love? Ponder on it. See the difference?

Every time staring at the neat pink ‘L’ on the black cover, I just can not help wondering if that ‘L’ tells about stories of ‘Love’ or if it is whispering “Laurel.”

Jennifer Beals' Words About Her Photo Book

WoW! HOLLO!

Last Friday, we finally got to move to our new lab. Yeah, finally. We sat in the nicely organized and sunny office – chatting. Then, the subject jumped to that 30-day free trial of…

What is WoW?
World of WarCraft. Right! The famous/immense 3D online game.

One weekend passed and I got Justin’s invitation lying in my mailbox on Monday morning. Great! However, first problem I encountered wasn’t how to play the game but how to name my character. Sitting in front of my computer, watching plenty names flying over my head, I just had no idea.

Till the last minute… “OK! That’s it!”

Here she came! Hollo.

Why Hollo? Well, it's a female character, not a man. So... I think you got my point.

The Way Jennifer Beals Signs

I was talking to a friend on MSN. Then, the subject went to Lu's autograph for MWCT. Basically, I just asked if she received hers. Since my sprained ankle has restricted my movement for days, my envelope still sits in my drawer. Suddenly, I jumped to mention Erin's super artistic autograph (well, or messy) and Leisha's cool one so I started demonstrating theirs on MSN window, simply drawing with a mouse. Erin’s, Laurel’s, and then Jennifer’s.

Jennifer’s autograph is usually shown in two different ways: one complete and the other compact.

First, I did the compact one since it was the one commonly seen in the recent years. I guess it gradually developed as Jennifer became more and more famous with “The L Word” going wilder and wilder in the past few years. It actually took me several tries to get this one working all right. Then, I took a step forward and showed my friend the better or, say, prettier way Jennifer has ever signed. It’s the one you might get in her early years as a Hollywood star or if you could get her to sign nowadays when she wasn’t that busy or in a rush.

“Gosh! I’m good!”

That’s the first attempt I made. Remember, it’s simply drawn with a tiny MOUSE!!! Not trying any harder to make it look good, however, I think I just made it perfect. (laugh)

Yes, when I said ‘The Way Jennifer Beals Signs,’ I meant ‘autograph’ not this… (laugh)

Oh! By the way, I can sign ‘Tina’ and ‘Laurel Holloman.’ (laugh again)

This is ridiculous. I can’t believe I just did this!

Even Better After the Best

I know Lu is real, like so real. However, when I saw her tweet shown on my page with my name beside her avatar, I almost thought I was crazy to a point that I might have delusion.

I know Lu is real, for sure, from those interviews, reports, and of course the priceless “Ask Laurel” page. Yes, she does reply emails. Yes, she does answer questions. Yes, she does talk. She does shop. She does cook. Of course! However, at that moment, when I realized she was at the other end of this incredibly gigantic Internet, talking to ME!!! YES! I definitely had a great reason to go crazy. Don’t you think so?

7 minutes. There were 7 minutes before I got a chance to shoot this historical moment. What did I do in those 7 minutes? I first tried to dig out my feeling for Lu’s latest interview, pondering how to put them in Chinese, my native language, and then tweeted again. Then, I was shocked after refreshing my twitter page and saw Lu’s reply right beneath what I just tweeted.

Three words nicely on a white background. Simple. Neat. Warm.

Blush came over my face as I tried to dig what I just felt, what made me stop my previous typing and tweet tonight’s first tweet. Of course, I answered. Why wouldn’t I? However, words are never enough. Words are always short. Trembling for longer than half an hour, I just couldn’t help myself. Take a shower. Still the same! This is the power of realizing something and experiencing something, I believe, at least for me.

So, what does this story tell us? There is always HOPE for each tomorrow! (laugh)

Best Day of Life

Finally when those you love get together, wouldn't you think that is the best day of life? YES! For sure. Today is mine. (laugh)

The L Word, the Hidden Word

-- Laurel Holloman

Loss of Freedom to Hide

Laurel Holloman。

What’s the amazing part of Jennifer Beals to me?
She didn’t just act the character. She became the character.
You couldn’t find Bette in her; you couldn’t find her in Bette.
The way she talks, the way she acts… even her voice sounds differently.

What’s the amazing part of Laurel Holloman to me?
Although Tina was so different from herself, she acted like real.
When I look at Laurel, I see Tina. When I look at Tina, I see Laurel.
Laurel acted so real till she and Tina became undistinguishable.

To a point, I even believe that the love I felt for Bette was stimulated by seeing her through Tina’s eyes.

There is no reason on earth that I wouldn’t want to take a picture of you.

OKOK, so ask me that question again. “Imagine a parallel universe where you are a gay. Who would you marry?”

LAUREL HOLLOMAN!!! (laugh)

YES, EVER SINCE THAT MOMENT, I HAVE LOST THE FREEDOM TO HIDE THE FACT THAT I’M DEEPLY IN LOVE WITH YOU.

PS. The first picture is a mix of Laurel's paintings.

Marry? Boff? Kill?

-- When "30 ROCK" runs into "The L Word"

Last night seconds after I was in bed, one question just jumped into my mind.

"Marry? Boff? Kill?" A game played in "30 ROCK."

Without a second thought, I got my answer.

Marry Tina Kennard.

Boff Bette Porter.

Kill Jenny Schecter.

So, who killed Jenny? I DID! (laugh)

Trinity

Oh! Happy Birthday, Jennifer, my dear.

The Curve of Love

In Her Touch

“You know what's right for us and how to do the right thing.”
Tina
“You need to figure out what's right for you and I need to figure out what's right for me.”

Tina知道Bette愛她,深深愛她,不消聽見Bette無聲的「I love you」,Tina仍舊清清楚楚地知道,因為一切的一切…In Her Touch。

“I don’t even know what I want!”

Forgive me, don't know where to start.
I guess we've come to, the serious part.
I need to find out, if there's a chance for us.

Don't give me that same old look, you won't win me over.
Don't give me that same old speech, you don't have to speak at all.

You can say you love me, that I'm your perfect crush.
How it hurts to need someone that much.
You can swear you mean it, but that ain't good enough.
Coz when a man loves a woman, it is all... In His Touch.

I wish you could see. Yeah...
Just how simple, it's supposed to be.
Coz now that we've come this far, we don't want to lose it. No.
If you wanna win my heart, baby just shut your mouth.

You can say you love me, that I'm your perfect crush.
How it hurts to need someone that much.
You can swear you mean it, but that ain't good enough.
Coz when a man loves a woman, it is all... In His Touch.

Then words don't mean, that much.

You can say you love me, that I'm your perfect crush.
How it hurts to need someone that much.
You can swear you mean it, but that ain't good enough.
Coz when a man loves a woman, it is all... In His Touch.

Ever In Your Eyes

This Makes My Day

Jennifer?

光是一個Angela Fox就讓我開心了整個星期五:「This really makes my day! I have to say…」。

"You can always find something to make every day your day. But thanks, you guys! You've already made today my day!" (by cissi)

It always comes in three's

這樣的旅程本會是孤寂,因為自己隻身前往一個新的地方,面臨新環境與新文化的衝擊。所幸在我稍稍跑開的一路上,有侯侯相伴,不管是爬牆時互拉一把或回頭望時仍能相識而笑,都因為有同伴,而不孤單。謝謝侯侯,在「一」和「二」與我相伴左右;

Monday afternoon

Question: How was the last day of filming, was there something you did together as a cast when you finished filming?

They both said that they had all finished filming at different times and that Laurel finished earlier than Jennifer and yeah, that they had a kind of a wrap party, well not really a party but everybody just got drunk and stuff was just starting to sink in. And at this point of the Q&A you could see that talking about all of this had really brought back a lot of memories for both Jennifer and Laurel and then Jennifer teared up and said that it is really just now sinking in for her that it’s over and that it feels like a good-bye and she turned to Laurel and said that Laurel is absolutely fearless in acting and that she ultimately makes everyone playing opposite her better and Laurel said that’s how she feels about Jennifer.

Then Jennifer really started crying and said that she couldn’t have wished for a better partner and up until now she hasn’t really had a chance to just say thank you. And you could see Laurel’s face crumbling here and then Jennifer got up and Laurel got up and they just hugged each other really, really tight and Jennifer kinda hid her face in Laurel’s neck and Laurel kissed the side of her head and they comforted each other.

That was the end of Saturday’s Q&A and as you can imagine there was a standing ovation by this time in the hall and it was just incredibly intense and emotional to witness that scene on stage. Jennifer and Laurel were both amazing in sharing so much of their emotions with us and I just feel incredibly lucky having been there.
